These are all great suggestions and, as a woman, I can't agree more that a beautiful bathroom is something that makes me very happy. I would be remiss, however, if I didn't add an additional (and economical) tip to this list: Resurfacing.

A reliable and experienced resurfacing (refinishing or reglazing - all the same thing) company can take a damaged and/or old, discolored tub and make it into something shiny and "new" in just half a day with little to no mess. And did I mention economical? The average cost of such a job is around $300 or a little more.

I am with a bathtub resurfacing company in the Tampa Bay, Florida area and I've seen some amazing looking tubs and some very happy women who get to soak in their tubs knowing that they saved money doing it that way.
